Rihanna is an American singer, songwriter, model, dancer, actress, fashion designer, entrepreneur, and music producer.
She was born on February 20, 1988, in Saint Michael, Barbados.
Barbados is an island country in the southeastern Caribbean Sea, situated about 100 miles (160 km) east of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The island measures some 20 miles (32 km) from northwest to southeast and about 15 miles (25 km) from east to west at its widest point; it is small Island.
She grew up listening to reggae music and began singing when she was young. In 2003, She had a chance meeting with American record producer and video director Evan E. Rogers and performed some songs for him. Evan invited her to New York to record some demo tapes and Jay-Z (rapper and CEO of the label Def Jam) became her mentor. She soon signed a contract with Def Jam Recordings.
In 2005, Rihanna released her first studio album “Music of the Sun” which reached No. 10 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold over two million copies worldwide.
In 2006, she released her second album “A Girl Like Me” which peaked at No. 5 on the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart, did well on the UK Albums chart, and was also very successful in several other countries. It was accredited multi-platinum in U.K., Canada, Denmark, and Ireland, and platinum in U.S., Russia and Australia.
In 2007, Rihanna released her third album “Good Girl Gone Bad”. Three singles “Umbrella”, “Disturbia” and “Take a Bow” from the album reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. This album “Good Girl Gone Bad” sold all over the world totalling more than 6 and half million copies. Her collaborate song with Jay-Z “Umbrella” was success hit and her collaboration with Eminem “Love the Way You Lie” was the best-selling song of 2010 in the United Kingdom.
In 2006, Rihanna participated as an actress in “Bring it On All or Nothing”. In 2013, she participated in “This Is the End”. In 2014, she performed as an actress in “Annie” and in 2015, the movie “Home”. She also produced her own fragrance, “Rebelle” and became a businesswoman.
In 2006, Rihanna performed in charity concerts and helped to raise money for children in need, cancer research, and Haiti earthquake victims.
