Billie Eilish is an American singer and songwriter. Eilish was born on December 18, 2001, in Los Angeles, California, and her full name is Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell. She was born into a family of musicians and actors.
At age 6, she learned to play the Beatles’s “I Will” on the ukulele. At age 8, she joined the Los Angeles Children's Choir and sang with them for three years. And at age 11, she started writing and composing songs of her own.
She has an older brother, Finneas O’Connell. He is an American singer songwriter, record producer, and actor. He has produced tracks for other popular artists like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Camila Cabello. He was the biggest influence in her life while she grew up.
He had a band of his own and wrote the song “Ocean Eyes” for Eilish’s dance class. In November, He asked Eilish to record it in her voice. She was just 13 years old. She gave the song to her dance teacher for her next dance routine. Then the song was uploaded onto SoundCloud in November 2015, and by March 2016, the music video was released. The song registered more than 10 million hits within a short period of time.
Several major record labels asked to buy the song and it was released worldwide by Darkroom and Interscope Records. It immediately became a critical and commercial success.
This accidental song turned out to be a big success for Eilish and Finneas which launched their career.
In February 2017, Finneas helped her record the single “Bellyache” and after the success of the song, in August 2017, Eilish released her debut EP ”Don’t Smile at Me”. ”Don’t Smile at Me” appeared on the American and international music charts and at an impressive No. 14 on the Billboard 200. Then the computer company Apple named her their newest Up Next artist. Eilish became the youngest artist to top 1 billion streams on Spotify.
In 2019, Her debut album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?“ was released. The album peaked on the Billboard 200 and UK albums charts making her the first millennial in the United States and youngest female ever to have a number-one album in the UK.
In 2020, she performed the title track on the 25th James Bond movie, “No Time to Die”. She became the youngest artist to write and record for a James Bond movie. She was just 18 years old.
Billie Eilish also became the youngest person to get featured in the Forbes Celebrity 100 list in 2020.
