At 17, Kesha left high school and moved to Los Angeles to work with producer Dr. Luke (Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald), who had worked on hit singles for Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, and many more. In 2005, Kesha signed to Dr. Luke's label Kemosabe Records when she was just 18 years old.

Taylor Swift donated $250,000 after a February 2016 court decision that refused to grant Kesha an injunction that would have freed her from her contract to Dr. Luke's label at Sony Music, but Dr. Luke filed a countersuit against her. Kesha and Dr. Luke are still embroiled in a legal battle.
