The Weeknd Special

LadyM 2022/04/24

I am going to write about someone who has a beautiful, clear voice and a unique hair style, “The Weeknd” this time. (It is spelled “Weeknd”, not “Weekend”, which would be the usual spelling of the word.)

The Weeknd is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer. His real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye and he was born February 16, 1990, in Toronto, Canada. He is the only child of his parents who moved from Ethiopia to Canada in the 1980s.
His first language is Amharic, which he learned from his grandmother. He also became fluent in French from the French-immersion class he attended until 8th grade.
He grew up listening to a variety of music like soul, hip hop, funk, quiet storm, and rock and he was inspired by legend Michael Jackson to become a singer.

In 2011, He started his career with mixtapes “House of Balloons”, “Thursday”, and “Echoes of Silence”. Then he met musician and producer Jeremy Rose. They started working together and created three songs, “What You Need”, “Loft Music”, and “The Morning” in 2010. They also shared a website and Youtube channel together. These songs spread quickly and were also mentioned in a blog post featuring songs by Canadian rapper Drake.

In 2012, The Weeknd started performing at music festivals like Coachella Festival at California, Primavera Sound Festivals in Spain and Portugal and Wireless Festival in London. The same year, he signed a deal with Republic Records.
In 2013, he released his debut studio album “Kiss Land” and collaborated on the song “Live For” with rapper Drake. This debut album “Kiss Land” peaked at number two in the U.S and sold over 96,000 copies.
Then he contributed to the soundtrack of the Hollywood movie “The Hunger Games/Catching Fire”.
In 2014, He released a duet song with Ariana Grande “Love me harder” that reached the top ten.
In 2015, his second album “Beauty Behind the Madness” sold 1.5 million copies worldwide.
The Weeknd performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2021. He has introduced the world to his beautiful voice.

The Weeknd worked with famous musicians like Kanye West, Beyonc?, Daft Punk, Lana Del Rey, Future, Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande and Drake.
He has won awards like the Grammy Award, American Music Award, MTV Video Music Awards Japan, MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, HeartRadio Much Music Video Awards, as well as Billboard Music Awards and more.

I was shocked when I heard his voice for the first time. He has such a clear voice, which I noticed especially when I watched The Weeknd and Ariana Grande’s duet “Save your tears”, which was amazing… I am sure he will continue to spread his voice around the world for the enjoyment of this generation.

I started making this site 10 years ago because I wanted to create a website linked to YouTube playlists, based on the data of the Billboard Hot 100, which lists hit songs in the United States from 1977.

In addition to performances, lectures, and stage performances in various places, we have been teaching and training musicians from amateur to major artists, working with major record companies, and producing music.

Currently, we are also teaching vocal lessons from the United States to students living in Japan and the United States using Skype through the Internet.

When returning to Japan temporarily, we receive requests for several return performances in various locations, and in recent years, lectures as well.
