Happy new year everyone! It’s 2023 started and I am happy to talk about TLC this time. TLC is exactly my generation. I remember how we excited to heard when DJ played TLC songs in the club.
TLC is the best selling American R&B girl group which was originally formed in 1990 in Atlanta, Georgia.The member is Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, ( Born on April 26th, 1970, in Des Moines, Iowa. ) , Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes ( Born on May 27th, 1971, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. ) and Rozonda “Chili” Thomas ( Born on February 27th, 1971, in Atlanta, Georgia ).
Two of the members, Tionne ”T-Boz” Watkins and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, were originally part of group called “2nd Nature with Crystal Jones”. The group’s name was TLC-Skee with TLC being an acronym for the three girls’ first names but Crystal Jones left from the group. In 1991, Rozonda “Chili” Thomas became for the third member of the group and started as a TLC.
They are having sold over 65 million records worldwide.
They released four number one singles - “Creep” and “Red Light Special” are in 1994, “Waterfalls” and “Diggin’ on You” in 1995, “No Scrubs” and “Unpretty” in 1999.
And they also has released four multi platinum studio albums - "Ooooooohhh… On the TLC Tip" was release in 1992.
The songs on the album are a blend of funk, hip-hop and R&B, sounds like a “new jack swing” sound popularized by producer Teddy Riley.
and ”CrazySexyCool” in 1994, “FanMail” in 1999, and “3D” in 2002.
Since TLC debut they have won 56 awards. Among the numerous awards the group has won most notably, five Grammy awards, three Billboard Music awards, and five Soul Train Music awards. They received a diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). TLC also became the first R&B group in history to receive the Million certification from the Recording Industry Association Of Japan (RIAJ) for Fan Mail (1999).
TLC songs are so much powerful meaning lyrics. And unique and interesting characterized by Left Eye’s quirky, nasal toned raps, T-Boz’s low voiced lead vocals, and Chili’s powerful vocals and harmonization.
There’s fashion were also known for promoting safe sex, anti drug, and HIV/AIDS prevention messages through their music.
The musical formula was augmented by the girls' brightly colored videos and curious costuming. They worn wrapped condoms on their clothing (Left Eye was also wore one over her left eye in a pair of glasses).
On April 25, 2002, rapper of the group Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes was killed in a car accident while filming a documentary in Roma. But TLC was continued as a two-member group until 2005.
In 2007 they started to make appearances again as guest performers for award shows, music festivals, and concerts. On June 30, 2017, TLC released their self-titled fifth studio album.
TLC without Left Eye is not same. But the songs and videos are forever and ever. I am just happy I can still listen there’s music.
