Dua Lipa is an English songwriter, singer, actress, fashion designer, and model.
Dua Lipa was born in London, England, on August 22, 1995. In 1992, Lipa's parents Dukagjin and Anessa fled Pristina Kosovo to escape to Yugoslavia. Lipa's parents arrived in London as refugees.
She began covering songs by her favorite artists on YouTube when she was just 14 years old. When Lipa was 15 years old, her parents to let her move back to London to pursue a career in music. Lipa continued to promote her YouTube channel and finally she got the chance to sing in a commercial for the TV show X-Factor.
In 2015, she signed a contract with Warner Music Group and her first single “New Love” came out the same year in August of 2015. Just 2 months later On October 2015, she released her second single “Be The One”, which enjoyed much success in Europe, Belgium, Poland, Slovakia and Australia. Following that, she released many more songs in 2016.
On February 9, 2016, the second single for her album, “Last Dance”, was released.
On May 6, 2016, the third single “Hotter than Hell” released and peaked at No.15 in the United Kingdom. It also reached the top 20 in many other countries.
On August 26, 2016, she released her forth single “Blow Your Mind (Mwah)”. It became her first US Billboard Hot 100 entry coming in at No.72.
On November 2016, she was featured on Sean Paul’s single “No Lie” which reached No.10 on the UK charts. In January 2017, she released the single “Scared to Be Lonely”. On it, she collaborated with Martin Garrix. On June 2, 2017, she finally released her debut album “Dua Lipa” which reached No.3 on the UK charts.
She released “New Rules” which reached the top of the UK charts. It charted on No.2 in Australia, No.6 in the US and No.7 in Canada.
The video has been viewed more than 2 billion times on YouTube and received double platinum certification in many countries.
In January 2018, Lipa received nominations in five categories at the Brit Awards. She won the awards for “British Female Solo Artist” and “British Breakthrough Act”. This was the first time that a female artist had received five nominations!
She also performed at the awards ceremony at the O2 Arena in London. The same year, Lipa collaborated with electronic music producer Whethan on the song “High” from the soundtrack of the movie “Fifty Shades Freed”. Then she hooked up with music producer Calvin Harris and released her single “One Kiss”.
Grammy Awards: Lipa received 6 nominations and won 3. In 2019, Best New Artist, and Best Dance Recording. In 2021, Best Pop Vocal Album.
Her music style is called “Dark Pop” by some people. Usually, I do not listen to this kind of electric pop music to be honest with you. But I checked her YouTube videos and I see that she is such a cool young lady. She has a cool low voice and a unique pitch. Also, she supports Black Lives Matter, LGBTQ rights, Palestinians, abortion rights, and women’s rights. I know that she will be supported strongly by younger generations.
